Johnny Cash
John Ray Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932 he was a singer and actor, widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of popular music in the twentieth century. Although his musical career focused on country music, his songs covered multiple musical genres like rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk and gospel. Its versatility in the music field allowed him to get into the Rock and Roll, Country, Rockabilly and Gospel Halls of Fame, as well as in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Cash was known for his distinctive deep voice of bass-baritone, and by the “boom-chicka-boom” sound of his band; The Tennessee Three, and also for his outlaw image, related to his interest in playing in state prisons. He had a somber and humble attitude that materialized with the mode of appearing on stage, where he appeared with the brief phrase: “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash“. The frequent black clothes that he used to wear earned him the nickname “Man in Black“.
Many of Cash’s songs cover topics such as pain, moral tribulation and redemption. During the last stage of his career and under the label American Recordings, He began covering songs by contemporary artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Tom Petty, U2 and Depeche Mode, among others. His most popular compositions include “I Walk the Line”, “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire”, “Get Rhythm” and “Man in Black“. In addition, he also recorded duets with musicians like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson and his second wife, June Carter.
Just four months after the death of his wife, Cash died on September 12, 2003 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville from complications of diabetes. The musician was buried beside his wife in Hendersonville Memory Gardens in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
