The Beatles

The Beatles was an English rock band formed in Liverpool and active during the 1960s, known as the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed band in the history of popular music. The band was formed in 1962 by John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). The band started playing skiffle and rock and roll of the fifties, later they worked with different musical genres, ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, they often incorporated classical elements in innovative ways to their songs.

The nature of their enormous popularity, which had first emerged with the fashion of “Beatlemania”, transformed once their compositions became more sophisticated. They came to be perceived as the incarnation of progressive ideals, extending its influence in the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

With an initial formation of five members that included Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe (bass) and Pete Best (drums), the band built their reputation in Liverpool and Hamburg pubs over a period of three years from 1960. Sutcliffe left the band in 1961, and Best was replaced by Starr the following year. They developed as a professional group after Brian Epstein became in their representative and their musical potential was enhanced by the creativity of producer George Marti, then they achieved commercial success in the UK in late 1962 with their first single, “Love Me Do“.

The band started gaining international popularity over the following years, in which they made a large number of tours until 1966, year in which they ceased concerts activity to concentrate solely on the recording in the studio until its dissolution in 1970.
