Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the capital city and a council of Scotland (UK). It is the second largest city in Scotland after Glasgow. Located on the east coast of Scotland, along the Firth of Forth and in the local unitary authority of the City of Edinburgh, is the capital of Scotland since 1437 and home to the Scottish government. It was one of the most important centers of education and culture during the Illustration period thanks to the University of Edinburgh. The Old Town their and The New Town districts were designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.
Edinburgh is famous for its International Festival, the world’s largest live performances festival, and other summer festivals developed more or less simultaneously, most of which are grouped under the name Edinburgh Festival. During the festival the city’s population doubles. Edinburgh is the second most visited city in the UK, after London, with about 13 million tourists that annually visit the city.
People from Edinburg often say that in Edinburgh you can see all four seasons in one day. Like most of Scotland, Edinburgh has a temperate maritime climate, which is calmed considering its northern latitude. Nevertheless easterly winds are usually drier but colder. The city is exposed to frequent and intense Atlantic storms that originate in many cases strong winds affecting the city from October to March.
As an Oddity in Edinburgh and Scotland, most benches in gardens and parks hold a metal plate with an inscribed dedication. Some commemorate collective or public figures such as reminiscent of John Lennon in the gardens of Princes St. But the most endearing is certainly that people dedicated to deceased relatives and friends.
