John D. Rockefeller

John Davison Rockefeller was born in Rickford, New York on July 8, 1839 and he was an entrepreneur, investor, industrialist and philanthropist, who worked in the world of the oil industry, to the point of monopolizing it. He was the founder and president of Standard Oil, a giant company that came to control the extraction, refining, transportation and distribution of more than 90% of US oil. Rockefeller also held entire monopolies and multiple investments in foreign countries. Over a period of more than forty years, Rockefeller’s Standard Oil consolidated as the world’s largest oil company, renovating the industry at all levels and demonstrating an extraordinary and harsh competitiveness.

Besides, Rockefeller was one of the most notorious philanthropists of his time, devoting much of his wealth and resources to numerous donations, foundations and programs. This man was the founder of the University of Chicago, one of the most prestigious universities in the world and cradle of 87 Nobel Prizes. He also founded the society Rockefeller University in New York; additionally he boosted numerous areas of education, science and medicine.

His entrepreneurial achievements were as magnificent as controversial, because by Cleverness, resourcefulness, dedication and by being unscrupulous, he got the best place in the business world, he raised a vast empire to the point than any other company in history has never achieved. Famous for its monopolistic practices, was denounced by journalists and researchers and eventually the government of the United States had to face him, he was brought to justice and after entire years disputes the oil giant was separated even though it took a long time to materialize after sentence.

He is considered the richest man in world’s history and is the founder of the legendary family of millionaires that still persists today for more than seven decades after his death which occurred on May 23, 1937 at his home in Ormond Beach, Florida.
