The Mini
The mini is a small automobile produced by the British Motor Company (BMC) and its successor companies from 1959 to 2000, this is the most popular car made in Great Britain and it was replaced for the New MINI in 2001.The original is considered an icon of the 1960s. An international survey about the most influential cars of the century placed The Mini in the second place after The Ford T.
This revolutionary automobile was designed by Alec Issigonis and it was manufactured in the UK by companies of Longbridge y Cowley, Oxford, and later in Australia, Belgium, Chile, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The “Mini Cooper” and “Mini Cooper S” were sportier versions that were big hits as rally cars, winning three times the Monte Carlo Rally. The Mini stood out especially for its easy handling and high stability; it was a small, fast and high quality car. Nevertheless it has to be said that motor resistance did not meet some drivers’ expectations and there were lots of cases that breakdowns were very expensive.
There were various versions of the Mini: there was a two-door coupe, a family version, a van, a truck, a beach model without doors and the “Moke”: an SUV version. The Austin Mini was a true automobile revolution in its time, and also nowadays, it is very popular for its size, versatility and performance. Of course everybody knows that its small size allows easy parking, and besides this its extremely low center of gravity make it ideal for high speed cornering. All the features previously described make the Mini an ideal car for both city and road.
