Help Stop Bullying
Despite bullying, as aggressive abuse or domination is known today, is an age old practice in human societies, only nowadays do we realize the gravity of its consequences. In the last few years, this coercive behavior that used to be related to dictatorial governments and military forces has made its way through the most vulnerable individuals of our society, this is, our children.
School bullying has turned thousands of kids’ everyday life into a nightmare. Statistics show an alarming picture: five to fifteen percent of students at school suffer of constant bullying, an unstopping aggression that can continue throughout most of their studying years.
Non less than seventy percent of students at Secondary school experience bullying effects at some point in their course of studies and, what’s more terrifying, only twenty percent of these children dare to report their situation.
School bullying in the USA has a double face: it consists, firstly, of psychological abuse. But it doesn’t stop there. Mental harassment is often followed by physical aggression, which can deal to severe health consequences.
The picture gets even darker: in the USA, twenty-three percent of 9th grade students have carried weapons to school recently. This means that, not only psychological and physical integrity are on the line, but also is children’s’ lives.
Education, support and anty-bullying techniques have proved to be a good way to deal with this massive problem. But it cannot rely only on teachers and counselors. Families at home, parents and adults responsible for students who encourage bullying need to take part in this too.
