The Wonders of Spring Season
“Spring is definitely my favorite season.” Have you noticed how many people feel this way about spring? I’ve always wondered why, since the other seasons also have their very own charms. Is it the flowers blossoming? Is it the birds singing? Is it the cold and the snow finally gone?
Once I asked a group of friends how they felt about spring and they all seemed to agree in its many wonders. “You can leave your coat behind”, they said. “You can kiss your scarves goodbye and stay up late outside without freezing your thoughts off.”
So it’s merely a matter of comparison. One of my friends, Tom, who studies Biology at College, said that it’s also a natural thing to be fond of spring. “It’s the time of the year in which most species procreate; it’s the season of love because it’s the time to produce offspring.”
The very thought of us being so close to our natural instincts just gave me the shivers. Is it possible that our love for spring depends so much on our need to perpetuate the species? Do we like it because it’s a great time for mating?
My friend Susan, who studies art, had a different opinion. “I like the colors, the perfume, how the skies are clear and the sun shines.” For her, it was a matter of aesthetics. Of course, I couldn’t get to a conclusion, but there was no doubt that all of us in the room love the spring season.
