Jim Morrison

James Douglas “Jim” Morrison (Melbourne, United States, December 8, 1943 – Paris, France, July 3, 1971) was an American singer-songwriter and poet famous for being the lead singer of the influential rock group The Doors. From an early age, Morrison was influenced by the work of Friedrich Nietzsche, Arthur Rimbaud and Jack Kerouac, often incorporating their work in his lyrics. In his later life, Morrison developed a dependency on alcohol that seems to cause his death at the age of 27 in Paris. It is alleged that he may have died of a heroin overdose, but as no autopsy was performed, the exact cause of his death is still a mystery.

Because of its compositions, voice, wild personality and performances, is considered by critics and fans as one of the most iconic and influential singers in the history of rock music. Morrison was also known for improvising spoken poetry passages while the band played live.

As son of a military man Jim and his family had to change residence several times; they had already lived in 7 different houses when Jim was 14. At that time Jim Morrison Wrote poetry, painted a little and read voraciously. From a young age he was fascinated by literature and poetry.

After college he decided to focus on what he always considered his true vocation: poetry, with this intention he moved to Venice Beach in Los Angeles, California, living on the roof of a building or in the homes of some women. With intent to disseminate his poetry, Jim showed a friend a couple of pieces that could be set to music. His friend was Ray Manzarek who asked Jim to sing some and Jim sitting on the soft sands of Venice, timidly, sang the first verse of Moonlight Drive. Manzarek was a keyboard player, other members were added and one of the greatest rock bands, The Doors, was formed.
